The North Shore Girl’s Lament
A tender ballad, largo
I dream of my baby
As the moon shines
Over Lake Michigan,
Hoping it’s bewitching him
To come back to me.
Chicago is Moonlit,
A city that’s
So perfect for kissin’ in
By old Lake Michigan
But my guy’s not with me.
Oh how I long to see his face
It would bring me good cheer
Whether at Navy Pier
Or Water Tower Place!
But he’s left Cook County
So I sit in the moonlight
And wish again . . .
Oh Lake Michigan
Bring my baby back to me!
